On my 380SL, I wet-or-dri (240-400) sanded off the aluminum oxide (wet or dri sandpaper is basically aluminum oxide grit), polished it to an extremlly high polish, and reinstalled it. It doesnt look the same as anodized trim (too shiny) but it looks good.
